AAA South Jersey presented a $500 check to Jake Roney, a local skier who qualified for international competition, to help fund his travels to the 2019 FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Junior World Championships in Reiteralm, Austria.

Roney represented the 2019 U.S. Snowboard & Freestyle Junior World Championship Team in the Skicross discipline at the international competition, which took place March 26-30, 2019.  Roney qualified for the competition throughout various winter events on the FIS Skicross NorAm Cup.

Throughout his career, Roney has competed in various ski disciplines, including freestyle, Alpine, and moguls, among others. He has competed in the United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA), U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), and the International Ski Federation (FIS), with FIS being Roney’s highest level of competition. Roney’s accomplishments include fore-running a world-cup event, several national championship appearances, and a national title in 2017.

In addition to competing on an international circuit, Roney is a sophomore at the University of Vermont, where he also skis, and has plans to major in business. Roney is originally from Laurel Springs, NJ, and attended Sterling High School before moving to Lake Placid, NY to train at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

Roney raised funds on the University of Vermont Campus for various qualifying events throughout his season, but AAA South Jersey’s donation helped Roney to achieve his dream of attending the Junior World Championship event.
