Three Steps to Stay Healthy This Winter

AAA

The new year can usher in new beginnings, but it can also usher in a nasty cold, or worse, the flu. Keep illnesses at bay with these three tactics:

1. Get your flu shot
The best way to prevent the flu this year is to get the flu vaccine. Flu season kicked off in October, but flu activity peaks around February. While it is best to get your one flu shot early in the season, it is never too late to get vaccinated if the virus is still active.

2. Wash your hands and keep surfaces disinfected
Avoid people who you suspect are sick and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for 20 seconds. You can also become sick by touching contaminated surfaces, so keep door knobs, counter tops and refrigerator handles disinfected at home, school and work.

3. Maintain your immune system’s defenses
Practice self care and keep your immune system strong. Exercise regularly, drink plenty of fluids, get enough rest and minimize stress.
