Stamp Out Hunger

VOORHEES, N.J. -- AAA is in the rescue business. Emergency roadside assistance probably comes to mind, but the rescue business extends past the roadside and to our neighbors in need.

In May, AAA South Jersey and AAA Club Alliance came together to sponsor Stamp Out Hunger, the nation’s largest one-day food drive. AAA’s donation allowed the Food Bank of South Jersey to send 200,000 Stamp Out Hunger and AAA-branded reusable bags to homes throughout Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem Counties.

United States Postal Service workers dropped the bags off at households leading up to the event. Community members simply had to fill their bags with non-perishable food items and leave it at their mailbox on Saturday, May 13, when mail carriers across the country picked up the food and delivered it to local food banks.

During Stamp Out Hunger 2023, South Jersey residents donated more than 171,000 pounds of food to the Food Bank of South Jersey. That’s nearly 143,000 meals.

More than 27,000 children in South Jersey experience food insecurity. That’s 1 in 11 children.

“No child should ever have to go to bed hungry. AAA is proud to help our friends at the Food Bank of South Jersey combat hunger through Stamp Out Hunger and many more initiatives to come,” AAA South Jersey spokesperson Matt Bowker said.

The week following Stamp Out Hunger, a team of a dozen AAA South Jersey associates was proud to volunteer at the Food Bank of South Jersey, where we sorted Stamp Out Hunger donations.

Since it began in 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger food drive has raised more than 1.8 billion pounds of food.

In 2022 alone, the Food Bank of South Jersey distributed more than 15 million meals in its four-county service area.
