Battleship New Jersey

AAA

The Battleship New Jersey, the most decorated ship in US history, is located on the Camden Waterfront on the Delaware River in Camden, directly across from Center City Philadelphia. Constructed in the Philadelphia Naval Yard and launched on Dec. 7, 1942, the Battleship was the longest battleship ever built – it is nearly three football fields long and over 11 stories high. The ship saw action from World War II through the Mid-East conflicts of the mid-1980’s.

The ship features three turrets of three 16-inch guns each, which were used to fire a six-foot long projectile with the weight of a Volkswagen Bug 23 miles. It also has Tomahawk and Harpoons missile launchers and the Phalanx defense system – a computerized gun that could fire off 10,000 rounds a minute.

The Battleship is available for guided tours and for special events. Members save on discounted tickets, click here for details
